Battersea Dogs Home Old Windsor. Today the students from the Beeches had a tour around the dog and cats home. In the past we have raised over £1200 towards toys for the dogs home and we are hoping to raise a donation from everyone in the Beeches. Also one of our students is studying animal charities and gained useful information for her project.

75 students from year 9 at Burnham Park Academy, accompanied by Academy staff, attended the ASPIRE Careers Event at Refresh Skills Centre, Bath Road, Slough. Despite transport hold ups the students were quickly seated in the meeting room where Eden Girls School were already waiting and the event got under way. Nancy Lalor of Learning To Work, who organised the event, welcomed everyone with a brief introduction and outline of the event. Sorrel James, also from Learning to Work, then followed on and spoke about @Pathways’ for the future ensuring that students are aware of what the next few years could hold for them. Employers from a selection of companies then spoke to the students and answered the varied and interesting questions that the students asked….”How much do you earn?” being received well by the students and answered realistically by the employers! Students were then free to look around the various stands through in the area that was called the Market Place. Here presenters from colleges, universities, Armed Forces and businesses were exhibiting, providing information and offering ‘Have a Go’ activities. These included a carpentry challenge, Hairdressing and a futuristic technology opportunity. These gave the students some hands on experience of possible future courses, apprenticeships or training. Students returned to school not only laden down with ‘freebies’ but more importantly with plenty of ideas for their future. All of this should enable them to make more informed decisions when they choose GCSE courses later this term. This event was a valuable experience for all students. Thanks go to Linda Moody, Nancy Lalor and the team from Learning to Work for organising it.
On Wednesday 11th January, Burnham Park Academy was delighted to welcome pop duo Misunderstood. They delivered two different sessions to students with a focus on informing them on key topics, which included cyber bullying, discrimination and British values. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the key messages along with the excellent performance of the duos up and coming singles.
